“DBM has already assured me that they are ready. So yes, we are ready to support the families who have been evacuated outside the 6 kilometer danger zone,” Marcos told reporters in a chance interview.

According to Marcos, the government is continuously monitoring the levels of toxic gasses emitted by Kanlaon to determine if more residents should be evacuated.

Kanlaon Volcano erupted on Monday, prompting state volcanologists to raise the alert level to 3, which indicates magmatic unrest.

The eruption produced a voluminous plume that rapidly rose to 3,000 meters above the vent and drifted west-southwest, affecting approximately 87,000 residents.
